The historiographic sketch, 1998) Was born in 1940 in Kalinin (nowadays Tver). In 1963 graduated from geophysical faculty of the Leningrad mining institute. Doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, full member of the Russian Geographical society, honourable polar explorer. In 2009 the All-Russian fund of polar researchers it is awarded the order to B. A. Vilkitsky, in 2010 by a medal to an award For merits before the Fatherland of the II degree. In 1966, after two years of conscription service in army, went to work in Research institute of geology of the Arctic (nowadays Vniiokeangeologiya) where I work to the present. Passed a way from younger to the chief researcher. The participant and the head of numerous expeditions in the Arctic. The main direction of scientific activity - research of seismicity, tectonics and a deep geological structure of the Arctic region. Introduced seismological researches in practice of works of institute, including also forwarding supervision in the Arctic and Antarctica, developed the card of tektonoseysmichesky division into districts of the Arctic Ocean and the adjacent land, obtained seismic and seismological data on a deep structure of a lithosphere of the archipelago of Franz Joseph Land, New Siberian Archipelago, the Norilsk ore area, the Western Yakutia, the delta of the Lena River and the southern part of the Laptev Sea; created electronic bank of the Arctic seismological data; made a noticeable contribution to an assessment of the tectonic nature of the Arctic earthquakes and development of geodynamic models of seismoactive zones of the Arctic. Results of scientific activity are generalized in monographs "Seismoactive Zones of the Arctic" (1996), "Bank of the Arctic seismological data" (1996, in a co-authorship with A. A. Vinnik), several collective monographs and in numerous scientific articles. Was the first head (1989) of deep seismic researches in the Central Arctic basin on a problem of external border of a continental shelf of Russia. Extra professional hobbies are also connected with the Arctic: this studying of history of geographical discoveries and clarification of destinies of people, whose names can be found in the northern polar region of Earth on a map of the Arctic. Two, appeared in Nauka publishing house monographs were result of these searches: "Names on the map of the Russian Arctic" (2003) and "Arctic memorial" (2006), and in 2009 in Vniiokeangeologiya`s publishing house the monograph "Names on the Arctic " card.
