Note: the Russian illustrated magazine concerning the fine arts, music, theater and literature; prod. in 1909-17 in St. Petersburg (in 1909-10 - monthly, with 1911 - ten times a year; in 1909-10 issued in the form of the Literary Almanac appendix, in 1911-12 - 2 times a month the Russian Art Chronicle appendix which became with 1913 part of department of the chronicle of the magazine); editor-publisher S. K. Makovsky. "And". published materials on stories of classical and modern Russian and foreign art, reviews of exhibitions, theater and musical life in Russia and other countries; covered problems of studying and protection of monuments of the Russian art. Positions of the magazine were defined by idealistic views and sophisticated tastes of the literary and art elite seeing in revolution threat to culture, illusions about transformation of the world of art with its cultural wealth and perfection of a form. "And". showed the hostile attitude both towards Peredvizhniki movement, and to official state direction. In "And". representatives of various currents in the Russian art of the beginning of 20 century acted; I. F. Annensky, V. Ya. Bryusov, M. A. Kuzmin, N. S. Gumilev`s compositions, art critiques of V. A. Dmitriyev, A. A. Rostislavov, N. N. Lunin, Ya. A. Tugendkhold were printed. In 1918 in connection with the publication of a number of anti-Soviet articles "A". it was closed.
